The Beach
Sunday Sept. 15th 2019
Yesterday was a laid back day. I did not especially want to get back in the car and drive. Friday was a bit too much driving in one day. I don't regret seeing the countryside as I did though.. Postcard beautiful.
Yesterday the weather was a 10. Who knew? Today is proving to be a 10 as well. Who knew? Doves outside hooten and hollerin again. Love it all.
Yesterday I went to the train station in New Milton the next town west of here to possibly get a train ticket to London for Monday. Travel agencies do not book train or bus tickets for a day; only tours. The ticket station was closed due to staffing issues. Internet said they would be open all day. The ticket machine was not cooperating outside the door and a line of people was forming so I left. I went back to my studio for yet another attempt at purchasing a ticket online. Previously I had no luck. Perseverance and some good luck came through and I got a ticket leaving New Milton, no stops, to London in 2 hrs. for Monday. But I do have to return to that ticket machine to get the ticket printed. Good luck to me. I'll have to get here early. Just like mom. The train leaves at 7:13 am. So... get here at 5? No. Maybe 6.
Being a cloudless sky yesterday, I took my book, Once Upon a River, wonderful read by the way and went just beyond the studio to the car park at the beach.
The beach here but by no means everywhere, is something like 1/4 inch rock. Not a sandy beach you could walk on. There were many people being a Saturday enjoying the sun. A few were in the water as well as dogs fetching tennis balls non-stop. I don't know how the dogs didn't swallow too much salt water in the process. But were steadfast at wanting that ball to be thrown over and again. I did not wear sunscreen. I did not burn at all even after a few hours in the sun. It was quite warm with an almost constant cool breeze, making it very comfortable.
Today affords to be the same. I will go to a different part of the beach, actually closer to my studio to find sand to sit on, read and maybe go in the water. A relaxing day before heading to London tomorrow.
Reflecting: While in Devon and Somerset I came over a hill to see spread out over quite a ways, really red, red, just dug up farmland. I thought it looked quite like Prince Edward Island red dirt where they grow their infamous red potatoes. And low and behold just ahead some more were signs for potatoes for sale! I think they just dug them up. But the red color was as red as you could imagine.
The prices of groceries are astoundingly cheap here. Who knew?
