MILFORD-ON-SEA Sept. 7th
September 7th 2019
I just got settled in to my new place for the next 2 weeks. It's a studio apartment attached to the main house where Bob and Sue live. They are the owners of this "Beaches Cottage" as it is called.
There is a patio out back where I can sit and gaze upon the Isle of Wight. Depending on how I feel, I will take the 40 minute ferry out there for a day of site seeing.
While waiting to meet Bob here today, I drove 4 miles to Lymington as they were having Market Day where all the shop owners bring out there wares and sell them on the sidewalk. I just wanted to go to the book store there as I misplaced the book I brought and was 1/2 finished with. I think it's back at Harlech. So I strolled up and down the market street to get to the book store. I got 3 books so that should be enough while I'm here. Throughout the market they were selling everything from socks to windows; from fresh bread, cheese, veggies and fruit to rocks and shoes and plants and flowers. I bought some yellow plums, 5 huge and so yummy figs, seedless black grapes and 2 avocados. I went inside one place to have a strawberry, lime cider. After which I went across the street to get a 6 pack of this delicious bottled drink. I thought I was just going to get cider at this grocery store but noooo.
It proved to be a deluxe grocery store that had a cafe' inside and sold clothes along with gourmet foods. I had to get sourdough bread and cheese and olives to have with my cider. And triple cream for my coffee.
Bob and Sue left me some scones, butter, clotted cream and rasp. jam. All I need to get is coffee and I will have everything in case you know, a storm comes.
The trip down here from Mells took 3 1/2 hrs. to go just 66 miles.
Just before getting here, I drove through Lyndhurst. It was a beautiful town where there were horses right along the side of the road grazing. No fences. And a few cows and some sheep too were just grazing alongside the traffic on the windy road.
Milford-on-Sea is a small town, totally walkable with a road that is barely one car wide that goes out to the beaches. This road goes through fields of corn and tall grasses and one herd of some kind of dark brown goat I think. I will go back, take pictures and check them out.
One big thing I have noticed in all of U.K. is this: NO TRASH ANYWHERE. I have not seen one single piece of garbage anywhere. I saw one garbage truck emptying cans into their Mercedes garbage truck. So clean everywhere.
I had to look on youtube to see how to operate a French press coffee maker. That's all they have here to make coffee.
Just outside my door here is a passion fruit tree/ bush of sorts with ripe fruit just begging me to pick.
I told Bob, who sadly has Parkinsons, to send a cat my way if he sees one.
So I have a few things on my agenda for next week. It really doesn't matter what the weather does because it could be cloudy and blue sky together all day with maybe a sprinkle running through. Maybe not. The temp has been in the 60's and very comfortable.

The Market Day sounds delightful! It wouldn't be vacation without a few good books to read while relaxing in a garden or on the beach. French press is the best.
